:: A minute is a long time
Well the football season started in earnest this past weekend. Know that I am a fan, and only a very pleasant New England Fall weekend kept me away from the day games on TV. But I did manage to catch some of the more important late afternoon and evening games and one thing popped out at me; timing is everything.

:: Miniature thorax airbag wraps leverage proprietary laser welding technology
Schreiner ProTech (Southfield, MI) announced it is expanding the application of its laser based airbag cover manufacturing process to include automotive thorax airbags. Previously only applicable to side inflatable curtain airbag wraps, the company's new and customizable Miniature Thorax Airbag Wraps can now be used in vehicles to protect the thorax and pelvis of occupants.

:: AKL'10: Brilliant prospects for the 8th International Laser Technology Congress
Laser manufacturers and users from various branches are meeting for the eighth time in the imperial city at the biannual International Laser Technology Congress AKL from May 5 to 7, 2010, Aachen, Germany. With over 500 participants, around 60 speakers and over 30 exhibitors, the AKL has established itself as the leading forum for applied laser technology in Germany. The international public can expect a wide range of lectures in complete German and English simultaneous translations. From newcomers via system providers all the way to laser users, the AKL'10 will offer something relevant for every target group.

:: Mobius Photonics names Robert L. Mortensen CEO
Mobius Photonics (Santa Clara, CA), a producer of short-pulsed fiber laser sources (IR, green, and UV laser), has named Robert L. Mortensen its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). "Bob Mortensen brings decades of business management experience with successful start up photonics companies and we are very pleased he's joined us as CEO," said Kiyomi Monro, Mobius Photonics vice president of business management.

:: NKT Photonics to open North American subsidiary
NKT Photonics A/S announces that it will establish a wholly owned subsidiary, NKT Photonics Inc., in the U.S. to serve the growing North American market. "NKT Photonics has a large base of industrial and academic customers in the U.S. and Canada, spanning the whole product range from bare crystal fiber to SuperK white light lasers. This expansion is to address the great demand and to offer an even better service to our valuable customers. We have done this successfully before in central Europe by opening NKT Photonics GmbH in Germany four years ago," said Chuong Tran, VP of sales and marketing.
